UK Business Opportunities
Looking for business opportunities in the UK? We look for evidence that demand may be changing faster than supply, creating opportunities to sell products, provide services or respond to gaps in supply.

A demand signal is not a guarantee that an opportunity will be profitable. The aim is to identify interesting situations early enough for you to investigate the evidence, costs, competition and potential market for yourself.
Finding Business Opportunities From Changing Demand
Business opportunities can emerge when something changes. A product may suddenly become popular, existing suppliers may struggle to keep up, consumers may develop a new need, businesses may have difficulty recruiting particular skills or a shortage may create demand for an alternative.
Some changes happen across the whole UK. Others may only affect a particular town, city, region, industry or group of customers. A smaller regional demand gap can still represent a worthwhile opportunity if supply is limited and there are enough potential customers.
This is the thinking behind Demand Hunt Live. Rather than simply producing lists of popular business ideas, we look for evidence of changing demand and supply that could point towards something worth investigating.

Products In Demand In The UK
Products can become opportunities for many reasons. Consumer tastes change, social trends accelerate, seasonal demand arrives, a product receives unexpected attention or existing stock becomes difficult to obtain.
The interesting point is not simply whether a product is popular. We are particularly interested in situations where demand appears to be increasing faster than supply, because that imbalance may create opportunities for additional sellers, alternative products or new sources of stock.
If you identify a product opportunity, you may want to source stock for resale, manufacture something yourself, develop an alternative or simply investigate whether there is enough margin to make selling it worthwhile.
Services In Demand
Not every opportunity involves a physical product. Changing technology, regulation, demographics, consumer behaviour and business practices can all create demand for services.
An opportunity may exist where customers are struggling to find a particular service, waiting times are increasing, existing providers have more work than they can handle or a new skill is becoming important faster than the market can supply it.
Service opportunities can sometimes be tested with less upfront investment than product opportunities because there may be no need to purchase significant amounts of stock before finding customers.
Skills And Recruitment Opportunities
Shortages of workers or particular skills can create several types of opportunity. Recruiters may be able to specialise in difficult-to-fill roles, training providers may respond to growing skills requirements and individuals may identify areas where acquiring a new skill could improve their employment or self-employment prospects.
Demand Hunt therefore looks beyond consumer products when searching for signs that demand may be running ahead of available supply.
Local And Regional Business Opportunities
A business opportunity does not have to be national. Demand can be unusually strong in one location because of population changes, housing development, tourism, local investment, shortages of particular services or other regional factors.
We monitor the UK nationally, but also highlight worthwhile regional and local signals wherever they occur. A demand gap affecting one city or region may be more actionable for a small business than a much larger national trend.
How To Assess An Opportunity
Spotting demand is only the beginning. Before committing money or significant time, consider how many potential customers there may be, how long the demand could last, existing competition, likely selling prices and all the costs involved in supplying the product or service.
For products, that can include purchase price, delivery, marketplace fees, payment charges, storage, returns and unsold stock. For services, consider the time required, customer acquisition costs, equipment, insurance, qualifications and other costs of delivery.
Our guide to how to size a business opportunity explains a simple way to estimate the potential value before deciding whether something deserves further investigation.

Demand Signals Are Starting Points, Not Guarantees
We deliberately distinguish between evidence of demand and a proven business opportunity. A product can be popular but unprofitable. A shortage can disappear quickly. A fast-growing market can attract competitors. A strong national trend may not translate into demand in your particular area.
Demand Hunt is designed to help identify things worth looking at earlier. The decision about whether an opportunity is suitable depends on your own costs, experience, resources, location and ability to reach customers.
